2-Bay GondolaNote: I built two versions of the car. The first version was narrower as the bay halves were glued to each other. The second version inserted a spacer between the bay halves. The photos are mixed and some narrow photos may be shown. |

Building the Frame |
A frame was built on the bottom of each bay. |
Stripwood was used for the main frame. It was built over the bay frames and painted when glue set. |
Body Construction |
Atlas O scale 40' reefer bodies were used to make the bays. The reefer roofs are used for the sides. Basswood was used to widen the bays and styrene strip became the edges. |
The Atlas reefer ends were cut and glued onto the bay ends. |
The sides are the Atlas roofs with the details stripped off.
Styrene tubing was glued down the middle to add detail. |
| Scribed styrene was glued in the bay bottom. Bay is ready for paint. | |
The bays were painted with various colors including copper. Grab irons added when the paint dried. |
Details added to the ends. |
The brake wheel is made from a large snap and the
mount out of basswood. It is glued in between the bays. |
