A Tyco Flatcar Bites the Dust
and Takes an Intermountain Tankcar with It.

December 22

I just couldn't wait to get the saw out and do some hacking. But I must say, the tanker looks like it is a few steps beyond salvage. The Athearn chemical tanker in the upper right hand corner of the first photo was the original victim.

Christmas Always Comes Early with Mail Order

December 20

I am stocking up for a cold hard winter stuck in the basement with the fireplace going, hot beverages, and thermal undergarments!

Industrial Buildings in the American West

December 1

I got a deal on eBay of Pikestuff parts. Included was three sets of these walls and end packages. Once again I decided to sell them but upon a closer peek at the design, they looked like they could pass for wood siding. All of these packs went into my "Future Kitbashing Box" and I am looking forward to making an old west town out of them.

Kadee Coupler #711 Disappointment

November 28

Since I decided to model 19th century trains, I wanted to explore Kadee #711 old time couplers. In the photo I am seeing if a coupler will work on an MDC 36' chassis and the coupler shank does not have a large enough hole to fit over the mounting post. Plus, the coupler is too short. So, I will use mygo-to #148 whisker coupler.

Computer in the Cabinet

November 25

I had my desktop sitting underneath this cabinet on the washing machine. When the washing machine enters the spin cycle, the CPU vibrates and the memory chips bounce out the sockets. My solution was to hide it in the cabinet with only the monitor, keyboard, and mouse on the dryer.

November 23

During my visit to Cheyenne I drove down to Greely, CO and visited the Colorado Model Railroad Museum. These pictures are from the museum's website. I was impressed with what had been accomplished in model railroading.

Testors Decal Set

November 12

At Hobby Lobby I found Testors Decal Set in the small bottle. When I picked up the bottle to read the labels, I found I could not read them. This is one of the frustrating changes I've seen in Testors small bottle paints. The labels used to be very readable but now I can barely find the color and product number. But this label is better than the labels on the paint bottles.

Intermountain Train Expo
Salt Lake City, Utah
November 7 & 8

The trainshow was held at Stadler Rail. I didn't find much I wanted, but I did talk to a few people. Simple tours were given by the Stadler public relations department. Most of the tour was presented in a building with twelve commuter units under construction. The tour guide gave out quite a bit of information about the company and the construction process.

I did find two MDC 36' boxcars with fishbelly underframes and three Tyco 50' flatcar bodies.
